How To Make The Most Delicious Skinny Margarita With These Unexpected Ingredients
Written by: Liz Brown - May. 3, 2018
It’s that time of year again! The weather is getting warmer, the drinks are getting cooler, and ice cold margaritas are suddenly the hottest drink on the menu!
According to the latest Nielsen CGA survey, the margarita is the most popular cocktail in the United States for the second year running! Aside from the fact that margaritas are a complete hit in America, they unfortunately have a terrible reputation when it comes to their calorie count.
A traditional margarita is loaded with artificial sugars and sweet liqueurs that add hundreds of empty calories (almost 500 calories per 12 ounce serving to be exact!) Empty calories are calories that provide no nutritional value whatsoever. These calories are not only bad for your health, but they can also cause some serious damage to your waistline.
A problem that many calorie-conscious margarita lovers have is when they attempt to lower the calorie count of their beloved margarita…it usually ends up tasting like 💩. But I am here to reassure you that a skinny margarita recipe that actually tastes uh-maze-ing really DOES exist!
The secret for a delicious skinny margarita comes from these two unexpected ingredients that are packed with nutrients and natural sweetness! Are you ready?…
The secret ingredients are…

Mangos are most notably known for their high levels of fiber, pectin and vitamin C. This combination lower your low-density lipoprotein levels (LDL), also known as “the bad cholesterols”. Mangos are also high in folate, and vitamin A, K, and B-6 .
How To Make Fresh Mango Puree
Prepping the mango for your margarita is actually very simple. If you are a fan of margaritas on the rocks, like myself, you will need puree’d mango. This particular mango margarita recipe is on the rocks, however, if you’d prefer a frozen margarita you can skip this step entirely and use frozen mangos and ice instead of puree.
To puree the mango, all you need is a food processor/powerful blender, fresh mango, and water.
- First you’ll want to peel the mango separating the fruit from the skin.
- Slice the mango into cubes using a knife
- Place the mango cubes into the food processor/blender and blend until the mangos have turned into a paste.
- Slowly add water until the mango becomes more liquified like a syrup.
*QUICK NOTE ABOUT SWEETENERS: Most traditional margaritas use a triple sec liqueur, simple syrup, or table sugar to sweeten it up. Because these types of sweeteners spike your blood sugar, we’ve opted for pure agave nectar. Agave is a natural sweetener made from the agave plant and is considered a low glycemic sweetener. Foods that have a high glycemic level send your insulin levels way up very quickly and then come down slowly. Low glycemic foods, on the other hand, raise your blood sugar much slower and not nearly as high, and comes down faster.

- Secure the lid firmly onto the container and shake well.
- For a chili rim, run a lime wedge along the rim of your glass and dip the rim in Tajin
